Dr. James Hernandez is an educator, researcher, and community leader passionate about transforming education through innovation, technology, and student-centered learning. He earned his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching from The University of Texas at San Antonio, specializing in game-based learning, STEM education, and learning technologies. His research focuses on how digital tools, gaming, AI, and immersive learning experiences can improve student engagement and educational equity, particularly in underserved communities.
Dr. Hernandez currently serves as President of the Edgewood ISD Board of Trustees while also working as a STEM and engineering educator in San Antonio. His unique perspective as both a classroom teacher and school board leader allows him to bridge the gap between educational policy and real-world classroom practice. Throughout his career, he has led and supported numerous initiatives involving robotics, esports, cybersecurity, VR learning, drone programs, and culturally responsive STEM education.
In addition to his work in education, Dr. Hernandez is the Founder and CEO of Paragon Praxis Education Consulting, where he helps schools and organizations align innovative teaching practices with strategic leadership and governance. He is also the founder of the Hoi Jeon Martial Arts Institute, reflecting his commitment to discipline, mentorship, and lifelong learning.
A frequent speaker, published researcher, and community advocate, Dr. Hernandez has presented at national and international conferences, received multiple STEM and education awards, and remains deeply committed to empowering students, educators, and communities through research-driven innovation and meaningful educational experiences.
